SARAH SENECA is a not for profit agency supporting individuals with disabilities in residential settings including IHS, CLA, and CRS group homes.

We are seeking a full-time 40 hours Lead Direct Care staff at two of our group homes. This is a 2nd shift position and is responsible for helping the manager supervise other staff at the group home. This position is also does the medical oversite for the home with scheduling doctor appointments, ordering medications, getting doctor orders, etc. which requires this position to be DDS Medication certified.

Details about the position include:

-The Lead Direct Care staff will support individuals served in maintaining their health and safety, independence, and community integration.

-The Lead Direct Care staff position will carry greater responsibilities than that of other Support Staff. The Lead is the assistant to the Program Manager.

-The Lead Staff person will act on behalf of the program site Manager in his/her absence, assume and carry out all delegated responsibilities as assigned. May be on-call for the manager when they are on vacation.

-The Lead Staff will assist in training new staff and ensuring staff know the routine of the residence and how to assist the individuals in the home.

-The Lead staff will conduct checks and balances to ensure documentation is being completed, shift responsibilities are being completed, doctor appointments are being attended, etc.

-The Lead Staff will act as the medical liaison for the group home including scheduling all the doctor appointments, medical follow up with doctors, oversee the med cabinet to ensure meds are available for administration.

-The Lead Staff will assist the Program Manager in trying to find coverage and fill in the staff schedule.

-Other tasks including grocery shopping, supply ordering, transporting individuals to day programs, etc. as needed by the program.

-Create the recreation calendar for the group home.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrate at least two years of experience in a group home or providing direct care for individuals with disabilities.
  • DDS Medication Certification must be valid and current at time of application.
  • Experience taking individuals to doctor appointments or doing medical follow-up is a plus.
  • Experience supervising other staff is preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Valid State of Connecticut driver's license; Employee must meet driving standards as stated in SARAH SENECA Personnel Guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of ADL skills: i.e. banking, food preparation, housekeeping, money management.
  • Provide own transportation when working at CLA sites.
